Covid 19 Updates

ALA family,

As mentioned previously, we will have to begin the 20/21 school year online. Although we intend to meet in person at some point during the first semester; we cannot guarantee that this will be the case. Until we can meet in person, here are some FAQs that you might find helpful.

What classes are still going to be offered now that ALA will begin the 20/21 school year online?

All Scholar School classes will still be offered. Most of the Junior School classes will still be offered. Jr. School explores will not be offered as a virtual class, however if we are able to meet in person towards the end of the semester we will deal with registration for that class at that time. If you enrolled your child in Jr. School Explorers for the fall semester, you will need to update your child's enrollment through the link provided:

When will Junior School classes meet online?

All Junior School classes will meet on Wednesdays beginning September 9th. Core classes (Tadpoles, Polliwogs, Frogs, & Bridge) will meet every other week and are scheduled for an hour. How can I keep up with my Jr. School child’s class schedule?

ALA will post a weekly reminder of class times, dates, and zoom links at the beginning of each week on the ALA Facebook page. We are also strongly encouraging ALA mentors, parents, and students to use Google Classroom as a means of communication.

When will Scholar School classes meet online?

All Scholar School classes will meet on Thursdays, beginning September 10th, except for the American Revolution Superheroes RPG class. They may meet on Monday evenings. If you have a student enrolled in RPG, please be on the lookout for an email from James Horton and April Sellers, the mentors of that class, discussing the meeting options. How do I get access to my child’s ALA Google Classrooms?

We will be using a more secure Google Classroom this year. In order to do that, each student and parent will need to have an arlingtonliber.org email. Invitations to the Google Classroom will come through the arlingtonliber.org email. Parents of Core students may either create an email for each child or they may use their own arlingtonliber.org email for their child. Love of Learners, Scholars, Mentors, and Parents need to each have their own arlingtonliber.org email account.

How do I or my child get an arlingtonliber.org email?

Please reach out to either Angie Waite or Kandice Johnson for help setting up arlingtonliber.org emails for either yourself or your child.

Will the family fee be reduced or reimburse due to beginning the fall semester online?

No, the family fee is nonrefundable as stated in the registration packet. This fee covers multiple budget items, (i.e. FCC rent, website, general funds, storage, etc..) However, since we know we will not be in the building until mid semester, at the earliest, each family will receive the unused $30 back that would have covered FCC rent during that period. If we are unable to meet in person for the entire fall semester then the portion of the family fee that would have gone toward FCC rent will be returned to each family.

Will tuition be reduced due to beginning the fall semester online?

Yes. Tuition for all fall classes will be reduced by 50%. To ensure that your invoice reflects the reduced price, please update your student's registration using the following link: https://forms.gle/anvMMfbsUS9Z4PvP8

Will class supply fees be reduced due to beginning the fall semester online?

Morning classes supply fees will not be reduced. However, the following afternoon class supply fees will be reduced: Mediums, LoL Book Club, & LoL Drama Club. Theater thru the Ages will NOT be reduced because it is understood that all money from both semesters primarily go to the end of year theater production. To ensure that your invoice reflects the most current information on class supply fees, please update your child's registration by using the following link: https://forms.gle/anvMMfbsUS9Z4PvP8

Why won’t morning class supply fees be reduced?

The money that is paid toward morning class tuition and supply fees goes in to one ‘bucket’ to cover all needed materials, supplies, binders, ect. for that class. One of the supplies that each class budget covers is ALA’s liability insurance. While this is not a physical supply or material it is something that we are required to have. If you have any further questions regarding insurance, please reach out to any member of the ALA board.

Will the deadline for tuition/supply fees be changed due to beginning the fall semester online?

Yes. The original deadline to pay your invoice was August 1st. We have extended that deadline to August 14th. Any invoices not paid by August 14th will have a $25 late fee added. If, for any reason, you are unable to pay your invoice in full by August 14th, please reach out to our Treasurer, Kandice Johnson, to discuss payment plans. To ensure that your invoice reflects the most current 'pay by date' please update your child's registration by using the following link: https://forms.gle/anvMMfbsUS9Z4PvP8

If I do not need to make any changes to the registration I did back in April, do I still need to update my child's registration?

Yes. Due to the tuition being reduced, and possible class supply fee changes, we ask every returning family to update their family's registration by August 1st, if at all possible, by using the following link:

https://forms.gle/anvMMfbsUS9Z4PP8

How will I get reimbursed if I already paid in full my invoice for the fall semester?

After updating your child's registration, you will receive a current invoice. If you have already paid in full, that invoice will be cleared, and Kandice Johnson will issue you a refund.

What do I do if I do not want the reimbursement?

After updating your child's registration, you will receive a current invoice. If you do not wish to receive your reimbursement, please contact Kandice Johnson and let her know.

What do I do if I do not want to enroll my child in online classes but still want to stay a part of the ALA community?
